When a customer pays you, that payment has to fully settle into your Stripe balance before it's included in a payout to your bank account. Settlement and payout timing are two separate steps, and understanding both explains why a payment and its payout don't always land on the same day.
How Payment Settlement Works
Settlement is the process of a payment moving from "just charged" to fully available in your Stripe balance. Timing depends on the payment method:
Credit and debit cards settle quickly, typically within 2 business days after the card is charged.
ACH Direct Debit takes up to 4 business days to settle, because ACH is a delayed-notification network. The bank doesn't confirm right away whether the funds are actually available, so Stripe has to wait for that confirmation before treating the payment as settled.
While an ACH payment is in process, its status shows as Pending. It updates to Succeeded once settlement is confirmed, or Failed if the bank rejects it.
šSee Payment Statuses Explained in the Payments Report article for the full list of statuses.
This is why payout timing depends on payment method too. A payout only includes funds that have already settled, so a batch of ACH payments will generally take longer to reach your bank account than the same batch of card payments.

How Payouts Work
Processing fees are automatically deducted from each transaction before funds reach your available balance. Once funds have settled, Stripe deposits your available balance to your bank account.
Payout Timing
Typical payout timing follows this pattern:
First payout: takes 7 to 14 days after your first sale, as a standard verification check on new accounts. This first payout shows as manual; your schedule automatically switches to Automatic (Daily) afterward.
Subsequent payouts: once your account is established, settled funds are automatically paid out daily.
Weekends and holidays: a payout scheduled to land on a weekend or holiday posts on the next business day instead.
Time zone: payout cutoffs run on UTC, so depending on your local time zone, a payout may appear a calendar day earlier or later than you'd expect.
These are general expectations, not guarantees. Exact timing depends on your account, your bank, and the payment method used, on top of the settlement timing above.

Stripe has identified an issue requiring resolution
